I brought my Fricke I just purchased this year, so excited about that, learning how to spin on my Frickenstien is what I call it and its slow but I am coming along; its just coordinating the feet and the hands that's the problem,I will let you know how that is coming along from time to time but for now here are some pictures to oogle at

Mommy & Son

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gk1QearczJE/SRYWm66JiqI/AAAAAAAAAEw/tWXuN2QBT2g/s320/Chante+spinning.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266421672160365218" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gk1QearczJE/SRYXSJY50LI/AAAAAAAAAE4/OjGGvmGqKpI/s320/Ian+and+Will.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266422414781829298" />

Ian & Will

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_gk1QearczJE/SRYYQaBWEJI/AAAAAAAAAFA/_LzTZKfCKtc/s320/Ami+knitting.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266423484398309522" />

Ami Learning

This years BBQ we expected quite a bit more knitters to show up but things happen and we had a small group which worked out well, so much food to be taken home not to mention the newest little knitter finally arrived, check her out below

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gk1QearczJE/SRYZMJCyNeI/AAAAAAAAAFI/HKDeoncQhps/s320/Mommy+and+KJ.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266424510633096674" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gk1QearczJE/SRYa4IJQhoI/AAAAAAAAAFY/-w14o0Aikj8/s320/Marva+and+Sahara+checking+out+the+latest+Simply+Knitting+Mag.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266426365817685634" />

some of my favorite knitters were there, take a look!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gk1QearczJE/SRYZoNnCxQI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/19EtWRXHH4A/s320/Sherrin+and+little+KJ.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266424992895255810" />

I will have to post the picture of my Fricke later, I managed not to add it to my picture folder and now I have to go find which camera I took a photo of it with, not that I have that many but there are three of them, two digital, looking at a third digital now but still just looking. Saturday we had our second annual SistahKnit BBQ and it was awesome, this years crowd was bigger than last years and the variety of food and sweets were exceptional. I met some really lovely ladies who are very talented and gifted in so many other areas.

I have a few pictures of the event and the chefs on hand to feed the group of happy knitters, above is my Girl Harlem Purl; my Guru you can't what she is doing right now because I was too busy knitting myself but she had her spinning wheel with her and she was spinning up a storm with some roving from Moon Mountain Farms, I am not sure I said that right but if you Google it I am sure you will find it. Right now I am just anxious to post something, it has been quite some time since I have done so and I have a few things I want to share with you all.

Here is Marvalousknits and Granddaughter Ami, Marva I hope I got this right, I am not ashamed to say that I have been so busy with my garden and knitting my socks that I have not visited many sites to check up on my fellow sistah's progress even though I see two of them everyday. Priorities are like that at times when you are on a mission like the one I am on. Congrats again on you know what! Njoya teaches knitting and crocheting in Harlem I apologize again for not remembering the Library you teach from, I gave the flyer you gave me to Vivian so that she could attend your classes so look for her. I will check Sahara' site and get the correct affiliation you have with the Library and edit my post accordingly. ;O) It was so lovely meeting you and I can't wait to see that shrug and hat set you were working on with straights, wow; you are brave, I would just die if my stitches fell of those straights. (LOL)

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gk1QearczJE/RsJCJQgl8MI/AAAAAAAAAEM/jCMzAgC30Pc/s320/DSC00883.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098710454954750146" />

Above are the Koigu socks I was finishing up on at the BBQ, the stitch which you probably can't see clearly is the Double Andalusian stitch from the 365 Perpetual Day Calendar, its just wonderful for stitch pattern ideas. I really enjoyed making them and look forward to making some more socks using the Koigu, its just delicious!

Here are some socks I made out of some acrylic yarn from Moda Dea called Sassy Stripes, it was fun making them but I am having a difficult time deciding on how to bind off on the 2x2 ribbing pattern that runs throughout the sock, if you have any suggestions I sure would appreciate it, I have fairly large calves and I need the room, I can't stand anything binding me at all so bring on your suggestions. I thought about a picot edging type bind off, we will see.

<img style="float:right; I will continue to post photos as everything I have planted continues to grow, I will even supply a list of the different vegetables and flowers I have planted. Did I tell you about he bat that got caught in the net some time in the night, the photo isn't very clear but I took some other photos with my 35mm camera and as soon as I get the film developed I will show it to you; I freed it and it flew away, it was so cute with its little teeth and long wings, look at it caught in the netting:

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080534657499493698" style="FLOAT: right; Here are a few of the photos I took of the sites that I have seen. Look at the beautiful Llama isn't she gorgeous?

Here is a wonderful selection of felted items from RJ Club Lambs, the vendor was very helpful and in the middle of applying needle felting to a sweater she knitted, it was awesome.

These lovely items are from a friend of RJ Club Lambs, Shadyside Studio Wools, Ms. Arbuckle's small mill really produces some wonderful quality yarn, as soon as I read up on how to attach her site I will; look how colorful everything is. Way Cool!

Here are some more of the items from RJ Club Lambs, look at all the lovely, rich earthy colors... Look at the variety of colors in these hanks below which I didn't check to see if they were for sale but probably were. I just refuse to purchase yarn in any quantity for that matter that I can dye on my own unless it is extra special and speaks to me to be something...

Look at the young Alpacas, aren't they cute? Sorry for the darkness of the photo, I will have to go back into Adobe and fix it and reinsert it into this b-log be patient.

Here are some sheep that were auctioned off and waiting for their trip to their new homes, I met one of the sellers and she had to contain her emotions having raised them from babies, I will have to look up the actual term for baby sheep which I am sure there is one; I will let you know what that is.

Now for the bidding on the goats that provide us with the extra, extra fine fibers Cashmere, and the first goat to be auctioned has entered the bidding circle below... Isn't he gorgeous?

Now here are the other goats that were being auctioned off. I heard that they do not like to walk much and had to physically be dragged out to the center of the floor for showing, it was too funny seeing them put up a fuss while being dragged across the floor. What do you call a bunch of goats, a flock or is that just for sheep, does anyone know?

Look at the bunny rabbits, I didn't get a shot of the note above the cages they were housed in but I think it said that they get silk and something else from them, I can't remember what it said; I will have to do some research on it and get back to you on it.

Here is another photo of the rest of the rabbits on display, they are so fluffy and cute..

I am going to have to check into this because I would like to see what the actual fibers look like when they are gathered and then worked into roving if that is what its worked into. I will post photos later. I found out what it was, Angora. 11/14

Look at Marvelous Marva at the Little Barn where she cleaned up on some great yarn, they had a fairly large selection of yarn and roving on sale in quantity and the line was long, I didn't want to wait but Marva shared. Way cool!

Here are some lovely, colorful items from some of the multitude of vendors on display in one of the lofts of a barn, I didn't get a chance to get any of the names it was so crowded and we were being shuffled along like cattle so I just shuffled along.

Here is another one...

Look at all the colorful yarn in the background of this picture, check out this ladies felted hat, it is really beautiful as all the items were.

The structure below was very interesting and gave me some ideas for my backyard especially since I have a whole lot of trees not to mention all the surrounding trees in the area that have fallen. I will let you know what I decide to do with this photo of a natural enclosure, lots of possiblities.

Now what you have been waiting for, I bet you thought I went out of control...(lol) I didn't. Here are the items I purchased, I must admit I was very good, no exceptionally good check it out...

My very first needle felting kit to the left and below some roving for needle felting...take a look at the colors.

Now for some fancy type roving for needle felting, look at the colors...

Here is another view of this cool curly roving...

Now for some of the yarn I got at the best price in town and yes, it is wool..

The piece in front is a huge swatch I knitted to see how it felts and its felting but I have to send it through the cycle one or two more times before it gets to where I want it to be. You won't believe how much I paid for each hank, give up.....$2.00 a hank; I know, unbelievable. I will be prepared for next years festival that's for sure (LOL)

Now here is some wool I purchased in Roving as well as some already spun and it is beautiful, can't wait to work with it; I am thinking about a hat, gloves and a scarf and maybe some socks...hey.

Here is one of my most favorite purchases, yarn made from a Samoan dogs hair, the lady said that one skein would make a hat that she had on display and she even gave me the pattern, I will test it and post the results and the pattern if anyone requests it. Here is another view... Yes it is as soft as it looks.

Now you know I could not resist this when I saw it, I will be placing it on top of my plates real soon; baby its cold outside. Brrrrr...
It is so cool don't you think?

I picked this up at one of the vendors booths that was selling shearling slippers and inserts, its my little snake; very soft.

Finally, a farewell to all the furry animals that made it possible for us to be creative in a multitude of ways.
Bye little sheep, give me a big hug and I will see you next year...

So this is the great time I had at the 34th Annual NYS Sheep & Wool Festival and Family Fun Day, can't wait until next year; I most definitely will be prepared to visit all the other vendors I missed this year. We all managed to enjoy ourselves tremendously and the weather held out nicely. To my fellow knitting sisters and brothers (chuckle) (it's all good) (Smile) that I didn't get a chance to see, enjoy my experience at the festival through my photos and I hope to catch up to you next year, until then...

Chow for now

Sow and Sew

Well hello again,

It is time to begin preparing for the Winter garden and I am very excited about it this year because this will be my biggest garden ever; looking forward I see a Green house being built in my back yard, there is definitely enough space to do it and I can get creative as I usually do.
I started cleaning up outdoors so tomorrow I will hit the backyard where next years garden will be placed; lots of work to be done but I am looking forward to it, definitely worthwhile. I got into cleaning up the backyard and forgot to take the before photos so here are the after photos along with the 22 bags of leaves and yard matter I bagged, boy do my feet hurt; 4 plus straight hours of raking and bagging, raking and bagging.

Now, here is what you all have been waiting for; how to start your Winter sowing: Gather your bottles, throw away all the caps and make sure your bottles are all clean; do not use harsh liquid detergents to clean them and make sure there is no cleansing residue, so rinse well.

You will need these things:

As you can see I have an assortment of bottles in different shapes and sizes with designs on what will go in each bottle. The smaller bottles will have herbs and the soda bottles will have flowers and so forth and so on.

Now open all the bottles this way, use scissors and don't cut too low, like this:

Make draining holes in the bottom of each bottle like this:

Now to prepare my soil; I always use Miracle Grow for plants and vegetables its the best. I add a bit of manure and some sphagnum moss to lighten it up a bit so that the soil isn't real heavy for my seeds, good for aeration see:

If you don't have the manure or the sphagnum moss, its okay you are using the best soil for what you are doing.

Now here is where the fun begins, mud pies; place some of your mixed soil in a very large bucket or a small one depending on the amount of veggies, flowers or herbs you are going to grow, mix with water until moist and manageable but not so wet that it falls apart in your hand like this:

Now place a sizeable mud clump into the bottom of the bottles, about a third to half of the way depending on what you are planting now place aside until you have them all done. This is where a legend comes in handy, you know what you are planting and have an idea of the size of the bottle you want to use. Remember that you won't need a whole lot of seeds, it depends on the size of the bottle you will be using, read the seed packet labels and get a feel for what you need to check for. Crucial, know how much of the flower/vegetable or herb you want to plant; we don't want to crowd them but we do want them to be snug like this.

Place them in the bottle like this above right and then give it a number with a sharpie as thick as you can write it, remember it will be outdoors in the elements until the first signs of Spring and you want to know what you have planted so when it comes time to actually place them you know what the plant is and how much room it will require and don't forget to keep a legend so you'll know which number correlates to which plant or where each numbered bottle is positioned just in case the number wears off;do it like this :

Place another clump of loose soil on top of the seeds and seal the bottle like this, you don't want it to be mushy on the top and bottom:

Place the bottles outdoors in a secure area where they won't be disturbed and forget them for the Winter like this:

Now for the clean up of my mess, broom and dustpan, it was so much fun...

Tada, I will update again when the time is right for you to actually place your little seedling babies in their permanent beds for them to continue growing, until then....

Chow for now

KNIT OUT 2006, WOW!

Oh my goodness, what a turn out familiars as well as newbies. She is such a wonderful person, so crafty and knowledgeable, she is a true asset to the knitting group. Marva is new at blogging so we have to give her a chance to get it together the way she wants it and then we can comment on all her past and present projects and WIP's. We will check her later.

Here is a great picture of the crew, new to me is Tawana in green top and Rosi G's hand and camera, dang I can't believe I didn't get a photo of her, she is so cool and what a knitter. These are the first arrivals before the huge crowd appeared, what a turn out so many people turned out young and old and there were some men knitting and crocheting, it was really great.

Here is one of my favorite publishing companies Interweave press, they have some of the most exquisite patterns available and now they have a crochet magazine out, it is excellent; a friend purchased a copy and let me parouse through it and you know I had to subscribe to it, it definitely was that good, can't wait to get started; I wish I had two more pairs of hands, boy I would be a knitting/crocheting maniac.

Now here is a sister, Danielle that has it going on, she made these sneakers, not the actual sneaker but she designed them and did the actual knitting, can you imagine the time it took to make all those holes so she could knit, we definitely have to hook up with her so we can broaden our skills, the sister is dynamite, check this out....
This is Danielle, look at the boots she made using fun fur; I think that it's actually a high heel shoe that she made into a boot, like I said the sister has it going on, she is awesome; come to think of it I don't even think she uses a pattern, I am not surprised. We will definite see her again, that I am sure of.

Bernat and Patons were in the house right next to each other and I was told that they are sister companies which is alright with me, as you can see they both were giving away bags with patterns for knitting and crocheting and a skein of fun fur, how cool was that. Next year I will be staying until the actual end because I heard that they were practically throwing away the yarn at the attendees so they wouldn't have to repack it, like I need more yarn; its addictive and I can't help myself. LOL

Now here is a publisher of some really wonderful items both knitting and crocheting not to mention other crafts, I won't mention the amount of their booklets that I have only because I don't know but there are a few of them that I scan through to get some ideas on what I want to create next.

Waiting for the kiddies to arrive, lots of crafts to be created by the newbies to the various creative wonders to be made with yarn. I was so involved with my immediate surroundings that I didn't get a chance to take a photo of the outcome, all chairs were taken and they were having a good time; next year I will be more on point. I will probably add a few more pictures to this b-log later, I just wanted you to get a taste of what a wonderful experience it was for me the second time around and to see how the day progressed. I'll be back!

Chow for now

A Whole New Topic

Ga Ga Ga Ga, Gardening (LOL) :-)

(Baby Bell Peppers)

Right up my alley, I am a gardening attic as well as other manual type crafty attic which you are aware of; there are others I won't mention right now only so I can talk about my gardening. Well I seriously began gardening in I think it was the Summer of 2003 or 2004, and it has grown enormouly. One of my favorite types of gardening is Winter Sowing. Winter sowing allows your seedlings the opportunity to harden off during the Winter months allowing you to begin planting much earlier than most gardeners and farmers, the process if very simple even something the children will have fun joining in on, there are mud pies to be made and decisions on what you want to plant for the new season and collecting the different empty bottles in preparation.

Here are the steps:

Step 1 - Collect all the empty milk gallon jugs that you can even the 2 litre soda bottles and rinse them out with hot soap and water making sure not to leave any soap residue.

Step 2 - Parents should do this part because of the scissors, at about mid point on the bottles/jugs, cut them open but not completely off.

Step 3 - Parents, punch some draining holes in the bottom of these bottles/jugs so that when the weather changes, the rain/snow will be able to drain directly out of the bottom.

Step 4 - Purchase some quality vegetable/flower growing soil like Miracle Grow, its really great it has all the nutrients the seedlings will need to grow strong.

Step 5 - Let's not forget the non-washable marker you will need to mark each bottle so you know what you have planted and how many of them.

Step 6- You will need to make a Map/Legend of what you are planting and it is also good practice to decide where you want to plant what, height and width of a particular plant is also very important to keep track of and how long it will take for a particular plant to grow to maturity.

Step 7- Let's make some mud pies....Have fun

Step 8 - Seal the jug/bottle with some clear packing tape, believe me it i will hold it all together then place all your jugs/bottle outside the house

Oh yeah, when you make mud pies try not to make it soupy or you will have to keep adding more soil so that your seeds do not fall out so keep it firm but moist. I begin in September just when the weather is beginning to get cool, I will double check with my friend up in Saugerties just to make sure and get back to you.

Most importantly, when you place the bottles in your yard or on the porch like I do, make sure you do not leave the caps on, how else will the rain and snow get into the bottle. (Laugh) That is the whole purpose for puncturing the holes in the bottom of the plastic bottles and leaving the caps off, you don't have to worry about remembering to water your new plants.

Here are some photos of my Garden from 2004 here they are, please feel free to comment and ask as many questions as you like.

Baby Cucumber growing up, isn't it cute? Its own vines support the fruit isn't that just motherly? LOL

Cucumbers and Corn growing together in harmony:

The corn is further from you when looking and the cucumbers are facing you. My mistake was that I was too anxious and I planted them in the same pot.....guess who lost.... the corn. The cucumber are very viney and they strangled the corn once it began to reach 7' tall, no corn and plenty of cucumbers, organic mind you. I will not mix them next time that's for sure.

Wait until you see the Wasp nest that is built every year I grow my garden, my motto is don't bother them and they won't bother you; I have not been stung yet, checked out but that's it; wait until you see the photo

Look at them, get closer; they are busy about their business of establishing a nest for the Queen and their young ones. (Smile) My new tenants, non rent paying bleep bleeps! (Smile) Well I have been crocheting lately only because I do not want to forget how to so when the young ones ask me how to which they have, I will remember my stuff. Check these out...

As you can see I got a bit carried away with making these bags, the original pattern was for a much smaller version that could probably only fit a cell phone or some keys in, this one you can actually fit a small knitting/crochet project in with a little room to spare.

Here is another photo...
See, nice and roomy but not too big, it can still fit nicely around the wrist. I personally cringe when I hear/see slp sts, yuk; it is entirely possible that there is a better way of doing them which I would like to know but I just do not care for the abrupt disruption in the actual pattern. Yuk!

My Project Bags were done soley in the round; I have been asked to write it down so I will soon actually I have already begun to do so today during our Purls of Hope class. I handed the bags in knowing full well that they will probably be used as small pocketbooks which is also a comforting thought, I am sure they will be appreciated whatever the usage.

I currently am in the middle of two hats, one knitted and the other is part of a crochet-a-long for some of the newbies to crocheting, its really fun being able to show someone a new craft; I like teaching but I don't think about doing it on a regular basis....you never know.

I will try to post more often and let you know what I have been up to, oh yeah, my sewing machine is showing its bobbins if you know what I mean, the nerve! I spoke to Marva and she explained that it was the tension since the bird nesting was directly from the spool of thread, Marva explained that my bobbin should always have enough thread on it before you begin sewing, I will be testing that theory this weekend; I am ready to go...I have cut out my pattern and there is a bag I would like to put a lining in and a few other items I want to try my hand at sooooo I will let you know what my progress is and also post some pictures.

Chow for now

My Photos Are Freaking Me OUT, What's Up!!!

HELP!

Was that loud enougth, I was able to post two photos the first time before Blogger told me that it had toupdate some files and I thought Imanaged to save my draft of my latest posting but later found that it was lost in the proverbial sauce, now I have one photo and can't seem to upload any others....I decided to b-log with another posting to see if the problem persist so here it goes.....

Beginning the I-cord.

See, that is not funny; the photo came up. Okay let's try another one...

This is so not funny, why now after I had to recreate the posting, what is the dea-li-o? Okay, okay, let's try it one more time:
By the way the hat is slamming I must say so myself, I just love the way the TLC self striping effect displays itself, isn't it just wonderful; I plan on making quite a few of these using some more earthy type tones, watch my smoke fellow knitters..

The final product, it is too cute for words, Maya is going to just love it; she better (laugh)

The Cutesy view, Awww

Alrightythen (I meant to write it that way) now that it is working I will continue with this posting and expound on the first one with my future plans, here goes another photo...

Caron one pound wound into workable balls, how cute it looks all atop each other.

Okay I give up, this is obviously working and I will not fight the funky way it has been treating me so I will show you one more photo and then I will go back to my first draft and blab some more. Here it goes...

This is the biggest ball of yarn I have ever wound up, I didn't even know that my ball winder could hold this much yarn, I think this ball weighed in at about 3. something ounces, its' huge.

Well I have enjoyed this trip down the, "So the photos are playing with my mind" road and I will chat with you all much later, but not that much later, as you can see I like to gab.

Laugh

Chow for now

The Craftiness Of It All

Wow, I can't believe I have to rewrite this posting all over again like I remember verbatim what I previously expounded on, Dang! Anywho here it goes... I am having so much fun posting to my blog and reading all the interesting blogs that I have been visiting, the creative juices flowing are incredible and all inspiring at the same time; I have learned so much from everyone its quite amazing and awe inspiring at the same time.

I currently am in a knitting frenzy, enjoying every aspect of kitting and I have just learned how to spin, I will post photos soon, it is so cool just the thought of crating yarn that can be used to creat something beautiful from an animals hair. What an amazing process, I am definitely hooked to the core. I have to take my time when writing, you don't need to know that the bubble gum that I should not be chewing has long since lost its flavor and I am just going through the motions of jawing while I post, you really don't need to know that. (Laugh) I am currently spinning and knitting several items at the same time, like I have three sets of arms which I could definitely use right about now. I can see me now knitting with one set, spinning with the other and probably winding up some yarn with the last pair. Wow, wouldn't that be amazing? )LOL( Just being silly, it's fun some times don't you think?

It's appropriate that I mention being able to laugh at ones self, a few of us at work this afternoon were discussing that very thing, that it is very important to be able to laugh at yourself and make jokes and just let it hang out at times. A beautiful young married lady acquaintance of mines, I won't mention her name and I don't think she will read my blog anytime but I do plan on not being goofy about her situation which is lack of a funny bone but she desperately needs to get that knot out of her girdle and have some fun. Life is way too short not to be able to let your hair down and goof on yourself as well as others like so often do. I definitely am in touch with my funny bone and know how to get to others. (Smile) Okay enough about my lake of humor. Fishing joke, I know you didn't get it, I did! SeewhatImean.... That was deliberate! Laugh

Anywho, I have some updated photos of some of the WIP's that I have finally finished and wish to share my progress with you. Check it out..

Almost there, I frogged this hat back down to the 104 sts so that my dec sts fell properly, everyone cringed. I will frog in a heart beat and I don't care how many rows it involves.

Well I did it and all the photos came out in the second posting and so this allows me to discuss the crafts that I am interested in like sewing, something of which I know a little about. Some friends of mine old and new got together and went to the garment district and had a ball, I purchased some linen for $4.50 a yd in blue and 1 yd in white. We proceeded to a few other spots where I picked up some wonderful cotton floral print.... a really nice print, nothing loud for $1.oo a yd, I bought 2 yds.. I ended with purchasing some jersey knit and some lovely satin like material which I have some ideas about.

In attendance were myself, Harlem Purls, Necia and Jeannine; I will be attaching their blogspots as soon as remember how. (Snicker, just not too loudly) The other craft that I am interested in is making my own stitch markers from the varied colors of clay, I already have some of the necessary tools to get started , where will I find the time?

I have really met some wonderful people learning how to knit, they all come from diverse backgrounds and have similar interest in common with one another. I will forward photos of our first SistahFriends BBQ which took place in Harlem last Saturday, we had a nice turn out, not too many and just enough for everyone to remember everyones names, let's see if I can name them...there was Chante and Sahara the hostesses of this lovely knit-o-rama and eat - fest... Sandra of Green Gables, Marvelous Marva, Cami Cakes and friend, oops! then there was Sharin, I hope I spelled that right and there was Necia and Michelee with daughter Aliya, I know I didn't spell that one right, bare with me, little Cee, Necia's little twin and Jamaal Chante's little look alike not to mention Will and Ian the chefs who kept us coming back and forth for all the wonderful edibles. Wow, I pigged out and I wasn't alone. )laugh(..

Okay now for some more photos:

My very first attempt at spinning, it was great and I had a ball, my Sensei
Harlem Purls showed me how, she is a blessing to us all. When I finish adding some more of my bulky spun yarn to this small amount, I will knit something out of it; what I don't know and show you the end results.

K! = Okay - just in case you didn't know. (LAUGH)

Here goes my second attempt at spinning...

Look how nice and thin this roving
which my new friend Necia gave me a bit of at the BBQ came out, I just love the color combinations she used, they are working and I can't wait to start
dying my own roving, she and Chante are so happy about my progress; I am so excited, oh yeah this is my very first spindle, isn't it cute?

Here is my first order of roving, A whole pound; WOW!

Look at it, it sure looks like more than a pound; can't wait to dye some.
I will definitely post some pics.

Oh yeah, one more photo of some really nice roving from my friend Necia that I will be combining with some of the other roving I have to create a funky effect.

Here it is, check it out~

Looks fabulous, just fabulous.

I have to say that crafters are so wonderful and giving, always sharing either knowledge or craft products.

Fianlly let me say that I constantly remain in awe of my fellow crafters, especially the Witty Knitty's without them I would probably still asking what is a ssk. LAUGH!

Chow for now

New Knitted Photo Additions

Hello fellow knitters, here are the socks I made for my husband, 12 EEE, two and a half skeins of yarn with some left over to make the baby sock I later made and I can probably make another baby sock with the rest. The yarn is Zara Merino New Wool in a denim, lovely yarn which was part of a (4) day going out of business sale at The Lion and The Lamb in Manhattan; Harlempurl and I cleaned up. They were fun to make and you know I will be making more real soon.

I had to give you both views of these
socks because the self patterning is so wonderful to look at, I will tell you the name of the yarn as soon as I can remember where I put the label, I learned a lot making these; I will be practicing the ssk stitch so see what I can do with it so it will match the k2tog and look as smooth as that side does. If anyone has any suggestions let me know as soon as you think of one. I am going to try to k2tog through the back of the sts just to see what it looks like.

These colors are so awesome, I will be donating them to someone, I don't have anyone in mind yet but I know someone will pop up. I will be making myself some footies with the remaining yarn as soon as Harlempurl finds the rest of it. (hint, hint) Laugh

This hat was coming along just fine until I noticed that the decreased sts were not falling correctly, I frogged it 5:45 a.m. this morning and I am about to go downstairs and redo it, this time paying close attention to what I am doing. I can't wait to show it off finished, it was easy and quick to make and I will be making more of them real soon. I will have to invite Soxie.com to check it out once I have finished it and critique it for me, definitely check out her site she has some wonderful patterns she is sharing with her fellow knitters.

I will be talking to you real soon so keep me in mind when you begin your browsing of the b-log scene.

Chow

Photo Finishes...Finally!

Yes, yes, yes, I finally found my camera charger, Yeah!
Hello everyone now you will get to actually see some of the things I have been working on and some I have finished. Here is a WIP; a hat I am working on for one of my little cousins using Soxie's Pattern, I will add her direct link as soon as I learn how. I am learning as I go along, it took me a minute to find the dang file with the photos, but I did.

These are my very, very first socks and they drove me insane, now that I have my sanity back, I am on a roll and enjoying every moment of sock making. Harlempurl is amazed at how I can go on and on with the length of my socks, I just love the whole process of sock making....Don't you?

Socks for Maya!
After washing them they came out so soft, she just loves them. This is another TLC work of art. I like the self patterning, so stripey. I am having fun, can't you tell

Blue, Blue, Blue, here are my Winter Socks, I just love them; I washed them and they are so soft I used TLC yarn again, I just love the way the colors self pattern don't you; they are so snuggly soft? Socks, socks, socks!

Ooh, La, La, this yarn orignally priced
for $8.99, I got it at half off and as the months went by for $3.00, can you imagine? Yes, it is as soft as it looks, so luxurious; I have plenty and I will be making myself a sweater and a matching hat to go with this kerchief. I will show you the end project once I have finished with it. This yarn is so much fun to work with, you will not want to put it down.

Isn't this cute, I was bored and decided to give one of my friends patterns she found a try, come to think of it I think this is also from Soxie, I will definitely have to add her link, she has some wonderful patterns to share matter of fact, once I finish her hat pattern I will send her a link to my b-log so she can see how I did. Look at it, it's so tiny; it took about an hour or so with plenty of interruptions along the way but a nice distraction from the normal size socks I am hooked on. I will attach Soxie's site so you all can take a gander of what she has to offer as well as all the other wonderful knitters patterns I have recently tried.

Well fellow knitters, I will be adding more photos as I get the chance between projects to take the photos and add them to my b-log. Laugh! Wait until you actually see my stash, it is shameful and will definitely make you blush, want to swap? Sike! Just kidding, I will consider it if you have something funky and exciting. Let's talk. I will also be including my XL size Ziploc bag of WIP's that I didn't take individual photos of, there are way too many; I have been bad without a doubt. When I actuall y do reveal my stash I will give you some info on the room it currently occupies so you know where I am going with this.

Chow for now

Been Knittin

Hello, Hello, Hello,

I know it has been a while since I last made an entry but you know how it can be when you are a yarn addict like myself, I finally knitted two, that's right two pair of socks, one that won't fit me (for someone I have not decided on yet) and the other pair is for Winter when it gets cold, I will post some photos soon, I have also been bidding on ebay for what do you think.... yarn! I have some wonderful sock yarn as well as some great wool, I am so excited about my purchases. I also bidded on and purchased a new yarn winder and donated the smaller one to my knitting class at work, they were ecstatic; the class coordinator is like a junkie we have to keep reminding her to let someone else have a turn at it but she hovers like a first time mom, Rebecca is too funny.

I thought that everyone in class would like the chance to see how wonderful and easy it is to use and maybe in the future will purchase both the ball winder and the swift, they really are great tools to have when you have a ton of hanks you would like wound into balls with a center pull. I love the center pull feature, now I don't have to go searching through either end to find it. I am a happy camper.

I cannot go any further without mentioning my knitting Sensei harlempurl, I will have to find out how to place her handle on my blog so that anyone can go directly to her link which is colorful and chockful of information and wonderful pictures of her work and WIP. She and I both have discovered the art of spinning yarn from roving; she is of course so much better at it then I am because I am on a sock mission, I have started another pair and will be fininshing the pair I orignally began which I listed in my WIP.

I really have to make a concerted effort to locate my video attachments, I am so anxious to post some photos of my work and show you all how I have grown. My knitting Sensei is a wonderful and patient person, when I think she should be having her fill of me at times, she hangs right in there until I get it. (Laugh) I know I can be a pain at times with all the questions I ask, I just want to know exactly what it is I am doing at all times;( want to be control freak) you won't believe how many times I took apart the first single sock I have knitted before I actually Got It; the second sock was a literal snap to make. I will be learning different ways in which to create the heel of a sock as well as the afterthought heel which is in one of my books I will mention later along with the author. (Smile)

My yarn stash is growing exponentially I must add, I swear that it is cloning itself as it sits waiting to be knitted into one of my creations, some yarns yell out... I want to be a scarf and hat set while others say ooh, how about some gloves or mittens or how about an afghan or baby blanket or layette set or even a sweater with matching hat and scarf. I think aside from being totally in love with sock making, hats are my next to favorite item to make then scarves, blankets, afghans and leggings and the list goes on and on as you well know. I will also be trying my hand at making some toy animals, mainly the weird and strange ones; I like weird and strange. (Laugh)

I am back, I just check my ebay and I won one of my bids on some Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, 4 skeins; I paid about $4.40 per skein as opposed to $8+, that was a deal even with the s&h charge of $4.20. I am currently waiting on three other items then that is it for me for the rest of this month....for real....really I mean it....stop laughing, seriously. I have been out of control. I have won a gold star award for winning a certain amount of bids, that's disgusting isn't it? (Laugh)

I had to step away for a minute I only have 1hr left on two of the items I am bidding on and I had to increase my bid by $2 and so far I am still the highest bidder, I can't wait until this is over, the anticipation is getting to me. I will keep you posted on the outcome next time I check in and hopefully I will have a bunch of photos to show off.

Chow

Storm

The Felting Horror Continues

Well, I think I tried almost everything this weekend I boiled a pot of water and placed the Patons item I knitted into it for a while agitating it while it boiled. Once I was done with that I placed it in a pot of cold water hoping to shock it into felthood....nothing happened, I think only certain colors felt with Patons wool, I had a three color combination winter white, deep olive and paparika. I sure I mentioned that I was particiapting in a knit-a-long with jclane using her own pattern, I think it will work out well.

I really love the Patons yarn and I would love to be able to felt using it but I need a new technique to help me felt it properly. Woh-is-me!

Next; moving right along, I finally got the hang of enchroachments and I was ready to finish my sock off when I came across a large gap on one side of my sock, holy moly; what now? I tell you I must have frogged that one sock at least 6 times but I don't care I am determined to get it right at all costs, I have way too many socks I need to make not just for myself but for select family members and all the little children, which also leads into knitting slippers and felting slippers, I am so excited I can't wait to begin.

I am honing my sock knitting skills so that I will know how to utilize different techniques to use when working the heels of a sock, it is all so fascinating to me. Yesterday I went over to the Ragg Shop for its final days in business in one of the many mini malls up in Middletown N.Y. and I purchased some Landscapes yarn for $1.65 and some Lionbrand Boucle for $1.35 per skein, can you believe it, I couldn't? Now I have to go reorganize the yarn room so that I can convert it back into a bedroom for guess who are visiting, I have about 6 large garbage bags just for the yarn that is in smaller bags on the floor, I will need to purchase some more of the extra large bins, you know the ones you can fit a grown person in, I already have 5 of them, not to mention the smaller ones and all the boxes; I will definitely have to reorganize yet once again. Well I have to go put some fishing line on my reels so that I am prepared for tomorrows trip, that's right I am going fishing in the morning and I can't wait. I will tell you about my catch after I have rested and cleaned them.

Chow

Felting Nightmare

I don't know what I am doing wrong, I just finished surfing the net to see if I could find some directions on felting Patons Merino yarn and I did, but it is exactly the technique I used to felt, I think I will just boil the thing to see what the outcome is; I am so excited to felt something and when I finally attempt it, it doesn't work. I will not give up that word is not in my vocabulary. I finally finished the teddy bear sweater it is so cute, I want to block it first before I submit the picture; I showed it to my husband and he was definitely impressed. It really feels good when you finally complete something you were having trouble with; my trouble was with the sleeves and how to put them on then there was the decreasing which I must say now I have a working knowledge of how to do now since I must have taken it apart about 10 times.

I am a great believer in frogging if it doesn't look right, I will do it in a heartbeat. I just finished creating a hank from a pound of the kitchen cotton for dying, can't wait to get started, I will be using the RIT technique mixing some interesting colors to see how it works up once I knit a swatch, what I have in mind for the nice size hank I have created has not come to me yet but it will, it always does. I went on ebay and purchased myself a brand new large wooden swift for the unheard of price of $55, S&H included and I found the yarn ball winder for the incredible price of $8.50 from A.C.Moores. I did pretty well, I will post a photo once I find my charger for my camera.

I think I will take some of the sock hanks I have and actually use it tonight, yep I think I will. I will also post a photo of the kitchen cotton once I take the photo . I will be looking up some information on HTML' so tha I can have a better handle on how to add items to my blog and be more creative, for now I am going to add some more rows on one of the items from my WIP.

Chow

Socks Socks and more Socks

I am in love with making socks I just haven't finished a set yet but I am nearing the bottom of the leg and will keep you posted. I recently just bought some Lambs's Pride Bulky yarn for a knit along I am doing with jclane and I can't wait to get started. My husband entered the stash room and got a bit excited about the amount of yarn that was everywhere, his only beef was that it needed to be contained which was minor for him. (Smile) I really like the TLC yarn the way the colors self stripe, that is what I am using to make my socks. I also have a variety of sock yarn to create with and am looking forward to snuggling my toes into almost every pair, I will of course make some for my husband who wears a size 12 EEE shoe, I will probaly need four skeins to make one pair for him depending on the length of the ribbing. I am in dire need to felt something so I am working on a small bag to hold knitting essentials in, I will let you know how it goes.

I think I will dye some yarn proably this evening two skeins so that I can make something out of it even though I have the One Skein project book which is really great. I am going to have to pick up some more shelving for all the books and magazines that I have, they are mounting up. I have to go run my errands now so I will sign in again later and write about what I am doing and plan to do.

Happy Knitting

Yarn Patrol

I need to organize my extensive stash so that I know what I have and in what amount I have whatever it is in, not that I ever tire of purchasing yarn bite your tongue; I just want to move up the scale a bit not to yarn snobbery but in the vicinity there of. (Smile) I purchased some cashmere and it is so lovely, I just love sitting around petting it its so luxurious. I even have some Alpaca go figure, what it wants to be has not come to me yet I have so many ideas of what I would like to do but the thing now is to match the idea with the yarn; I will have to mull that one over!

I finally pulled out my camera and emptied the memory chip, now the battery is dead and I have to recharge it or find the plug if I want to use it. I am being undermined here and I really feel the need to expose myself for the yarn junkie that I am, once you see my stash which I am sure is not impressive but maybe for someone who is not walking around in a daze thinking of new places where she can find yarn; I am sure I will feel less guilty for having as much as I do once I have been exposed (deep sigh) what a relief just getting that out. (Laugh)

I am learning new techniques in knitting and how to use cable needles and how to knit a hat in the round using two colors so that one color appears on one side and the second on the other side; I am having a ball. I am constantly fighting with myself to finish the (10) projects that I have floating in the air before I start a new one or come across one I didn't mention which will probably be the case more times then I care to mention so pray for me.

Let's not even begin to talk about the books and magazine collection I have, we will save that discussion for later...

I am going to go work on the little girl bag now and I am seriously considering dyeing some yarn tomorrow and possibly arranging to take a class on dyeing yarn at Michael's, the instructor used Wilton's cake icing, can you imagine; we'll discuss this extensively later after I have taken the class. I have a 40% coupon for anything in A.C. Moore's arts and crafts store and I have been eyeing some highend yarn, and looking for a book ; I have decided on the yarn.

Talk to you about it later!!!!

WIP

Caron Simply Soft
Poncho for a 1yr old girl
Finished - PTF (photo to follow)

Wool Ease
First socks ever
will be frogged

Patons Merino Wool
Childs sweater
working on the sleeves

All kinds of yarn
Multiple scarves
none are finished yet!

Jewel Box/Red Heart
Knitting project bags (2)
almost done

Red Heart Camouflage
Christmas stocking
from last year (don't laugh)
[No really don't laugh] Smirk!!
will finish before xmas 2006

Red Heart
My first cables
what it will be, I don't know yet
I keep losing a stitch
will finish before the end of this year

Red Heart
Teddy bear sweater
Finished - PTF

Caron Simply Soft
Little girl's bag &
kerchief to go w/poncho above
will start tonight

Cotton String .99 kind
Shopping bag
still designing it

Caron One Pound
Rose/Off White
Winter Blanket
holding two yarns together
it's huge, still wkng on it

I Fell Off My Yarn Diet! This Is The Reason Why!

This is what happened on my way home from work Friday by myself , I ran into a bad traffic jam, as I inched my way home I thought what I can do to kill some time and then I remembered the 40% off coupon from Micheal's in my wallet and the fact that I was originally going to stop off and pay a bill in the vicinity so I went to Michael's with the intention of just looking for a book I was interested in, Nicky Epstein's knitted flowers; something like that, well I wandered over to the clearance aisle, a pet peeve of mine when entering a store of any kind and low and behold what do I see, YARN! Yikes, I hit the pay load! Lionbrand's Colorwaves was on sale from $5.99 to $3.00 in about (4) different shades, well the yarn junkie that I am went into full mode and I bought (6) skeins not to mention some Caron I had my eyes on. I can't help myself, I suffer from YAS (Yarn Acquisition Syndrome) I know at least one other person that has it but not as badly as I do unless she is not telling me about her secret purchases. (Hmmm!) Is there anyone else out there that can relate?

I am new at this blogging so give me some time to get the hang of it. I have knitted quite a few things and will be submitting photos as soon as I get my office back together, after I have finished painting. I am currently working on a poncho for a 1yr. old girl and it's in Caron's Simply soft light yellow, very soft and cute; I will take a picture of it and let you see how I did' it is my own design in that I chose the stitch to use and decided on the style I wanted.

Flash your Stash, I missed out on that; I don't think I would have had enough time to get my stash together for the photo in time anyway, I have yarn hidden all over the house in boxes, lots of bags, bins and closets; if my husband only knew he would probably make me pay him a storage fee. (LOL) Thank God he doesn't go into the spare room! Whew! I can go on and on but I want to get back to my what......., you guessed it, knitting! Write back and let me know how I am doing from time to time.

Happy Knitting
YARNHIPPIE!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://yarnhippie.blogspot.com/2006/04/i-fell-off-my-yarn-diet-this-is-reason.html' title='I Fell Off My Yarn Diet!
